Examining medication, sex, and substance use interactions as risk factors for cognitive decline Lead Investigator: Ben Lewis Institution : University of Florida E-Mail : benlewis@ufl.edu Proposal ID : 1370 Proposal Description: Despite numerous longitudinal examinations, the complex interactions mediating relationships between sex and cognitive decline remain poorly understood. The proposed analyses are specifically directed to extending this literature by examining NACC variables examining use of (or conditions related to) alcohol, other substances of abuse, and prescription medications (i.e., opioids/benzodiazepines). Longitudinal mixed models will examine trajectories of change in neuropsychological measures. Survival analyses will focus on cognitive transition using CDR. Critical covariates will include physical and health history variables (e.g., BP, diabetes, hypertension, CVD). Additional measures will facilitate exclusion from analyses where appropriate (e.g., TBI).
